Will Trade Heat For Rain

It's 2 oclock of a Sunday afternoon here in the flatlands.  It's 103 F/39 C outside, with 7% humidity.   Every ceiling fan in the house is on speed 2. Even with my thermostat set at 80 F/27 C, my AC has been running most of the day.  (Oh, my aching electricity bill!)  I really need to do 2 loads of clothes, but it's too dang hot to go outside to hang them up (although they'd probably dry in about 20 minutes).  What's worse, though, is that yesterday I should have made a big pitcher of iced tea and about 5 trays of ice cubes, but I didn't.

Not even June yet, and it's already hotter than a $2 pistol firing uphill.  On my weather widget, there's a thunderboomer icon for Tuesday.  Don't I wish!  Our year to date rainfall for 2011 is 0.88 inches.  I sweated more than that taking out the garbage last night.

For your Sunday delectation, a little bagatelle I found on Youtube (amazing what you can find there!).  That's William Powell playing Florenz Ziegfeld.  Guess who's playing Fanny Brice.  (Hint:  It isn't Barbara Streisand).

As I was preparing the links for the video, I realized that Fanny Brice died 60 years ago today.

  1. Wow, that is HOT!

We have some gentle rain here today, at last. We have also had a drought this spring and the rain is more than welcome.

  2. Fortunately, such temperatures are an exception here in London, though we do get the occasional "heat wave" when people go mad and fry themselves to a frazzle in the sun.
