Things & Stuff

I've just finished enjoying a lunch/supper of peach flavored yogurt with bits of peach in, and some cheeze and crackers.  I'm just not in the mood for anything hot or heavy.  It's been over 100 F/38 C for the past four days, with the same in the forecast until Sunday, which is as far as ahead my weather widget displays.  Today's high was 104 F/40 C.  It's cooled down to 81 F/27 C at half past midnight, so I took the opportunity to nip out to retrieve the mail by the light of the half moon, grinning brightly in the sky.

I've just had an email from a dear friend in MI.  Immediately I saw the subject line, I knew what it was.  They made the painful decision to put down their elderly, much beloved dog, Mikey.  They had the vet come to their home, which I think is the best way.  I hope they get another dog soon, though (preferably a rescue), as taking long walks with their dog is one of the things that keeps her sane.  She's in the same field I'm in, dealing with the same hamster wheel type of a job that I am (just for a different company) trying to make enough to live on.

The other day, I received my birthday present that my dear friend had ordered for me from the Gaelsong catalog  (and was completely delighted by it!). "Moongazing Hare" from Oriele Bronze.  It's about 6 inches high, beautifully detailed, and quite charming.

Even though my birthday was last month, I still have one more present to receive -- one I ordered for myself.  Problems with shipping are holding it up, but I'm told I should have it by Friday.

My folks usually give me money for my birthday, which they did again this year, so I treated myself to some books, and to this Windstone dragon votive holder, which I've been wanting for some time.  I've been on such a tight budget for so long, they insisted I "blow" it all on treats for myself.  And seeing as I'm a good girl and always mind my parents, I did!  I just have to hang on until August, when my financial situation will finally improve.

Just a shot of yesterday's lunch/supper -- asparagus (canned, alas!) drizzled with a little Ranch salad dressing.  I put the can in the refrigerator overnight so the asparagus was nice and cold.  I've not had much of an appetite since it's been so hot here.  All I've been having is cereal with almond milk for breakfast and something cool and light for lunch/supper. I've got to pick up a Rx refill either today or tomorrow and while I'm out, I need to do a little grocery shopping because I'm out of almond milk, and almost out of yogurt. Right now, I need to go make a pitcher of tea and then try to work for a couple hours.

  1. You must be SO hot, just stepping out of the door!

I thought of you this morning when we had a welcome shower of rain. You would love the fresh asparagus that is growing in the south of England now. I`ll try to keep posting green English woods and gardens to help to cool you down!
